The last of the cards from Steve

Here are the last of the cards I received from long time blog reader Steve D.

He included two over sized cards, I'm thinking he could not find a way to display them or binder them, but that's ok, I'll find a way somehow!!

Thanks again Steve, loved the cards.

Have a GReat weekend!

A BA Benny trade...

Today's post finds me talking about one of my first blog trade partners, BA Benny. Over the last couple of months, I've been setting cards aside for different people, including several for Mike. Earlier this month, I cleared out my blog trade box, sending cards to everyone that had a slot. Yesterday, I received my results from Benny's first group break. Also in the box were some cards designated "trade" to make up for the cards (and the mini-Bip) I sent his way...

Well, as usual for him, Mike did not disappoint, at all. He sent all but two cards that I needed for my base 2011 Opening Day set:

And, if you are paying attention, you'll have noticed in the upper right corner of the lower picture group, he also gave me a 2fer1 special. I had sent him a football jersey relic acquired somewhere along the line, and knew he would want it as it was a Jets player. Well, he sent me two relics in trade, a super-nice, ultra cool Pat Burrell, red-striped Sweet Spot Swatches card, which would have been awesome by itself. But then he's knocks a solid double by sending me a Brandon Webb, Destination Stardom jersey relic as well. The double, it being the Diamondbacks pitcher, who happens to wear the number 17 jersey. Too frickin cool for words!! You guys treat this old man very well and I appreciate every damned bit!!

Thanks for the catch-up there Mike, just too AWESOME!!

The last of the cards from blog reader Steve, and perhaps the favorites of the bunch:

Look at all those 7s and 17s, too cool! and I love the Phillies Chrome sticker, even if the scanne doesn't!!
Thanks for all the numbers Steve, just let me know if you ever see anything I can send back your way!!

A "trade" posting... part 2

More goodness from blog reader Steve D.
So, here are the rest of the Yankees, and some Red Sox, Twins and Phillies Prospects for those PCs:

I apologize for the black streak in the scan, somebody dirtied the scanner platen glass at work, just leaving it for the next poor schmoe to screw up their scans!! The cards, on the other hand, are in perfect shape, arriving safe and sound at their new home.

Once again, thanks for the cards Steve.
Have a GReat day,

A "trade" posting... part 1

As I mentioned earlier, I use the term trade extremely loosely here. As this is another case where I trade my address for a bunch of cards, how many people have been on the receiving end of one of these trades?
I know I've gotten a bunch of cards for both my PCs as well as my sets this way.

Anyhow, this next group of postings centers around a bubbler from a long time blog reader, Steve D.
He contacted me to let me know he had a bunch of stuff that would fit my categories, so quick thinking me sends him my addy, and lo and behold, I get the promised mailer last Saturday.

All sorts of Yankees for that PC comes first:

Thanks for reading, and Thanks for the GReat cards Steve,
More tomorrow...
Have a GReat night,
Dawgbones

Coming soon...

If you did not catch the post last night, I got my haul from BA Benny's Big Break (say that 10 times fast!!)
I'll be posting the results over the next week or so, but first, I have another trade (and I use that term loosely here) to blog about first...

Back in a bit,

You can definitely tell when the New York City Sanitation Department is on strike when Benny ships his garbage out of the state as "packing" material!!

Got my RAGU break results in today's snail mail!! Can I get a Whoot Whoot!!??
Thanks for the shipment there Mike, and I absolutely love the "17"!!!
More later gang,

Mis-Cut Mondays...

A quick post for today's Mis-Cut:

It's hard to see in the scan, but the left side of the card is cut right on the edge of the blue border line.
Back later with some trades.

Topps Customer Service...

No, this is not another rant. I've actually had good experiences with Topps customer service. I had two MCG code cards come back as already redeemed/invalid, which Topps quickly corrected by emailing me three(or more, I can't remember) replacement codes.

Upon purchasing my first blaster of 2011 Series 1, I realized after opening all the packs that the Target/Wally World exclusives were missing from that box. After scanning the Topps website, I followed the instructions and mailed in the required proofs of purchase and box codes etc...

Well, Wednesday's snail box was filled with an enveloped from Duryea, Pa.Topps provided me with the promised parallels for my set, going one better than the last blaster by giving 16 parallels

I do find it odd that they gave me all horizontal cards?? Way to Go Topps. Thanks for standing behind your product and claims, I for one truly appreciate it. And they even managed to give me another Phillie to knock off of that list too!!

Have a GReat weekend!!

Another trade post from across the water...

But this time it's from across the big pond!! I struck a deal with Jonathan, from RGB Cards. While reading some of his posts, I discovered that I had some cards from his want lists, as well as a Fathead or two that he would certainly enjoy. A deal was struck, and an airmail envelope  arrived at my humble abode on Monday.

Now, before I post the cards and goodies that he sent my way, I want to put in a small plug for his blog. If you have not read any of his stuff, it's well worth a peek or two. I ran across his site through one of the other blogs that I read regularly, and quickly added him to my follow list. I really enjoyed his Travels with Raleigh series, but then again, I'm a sucker for any story involving dogs!!

Now, on with the goodness:

He mostly sent me cards from my 2011 needs, but also struck a trade for a Manupatch card, I had an Ichiro Pilots card that he'd been hunting for, and he had acquired a Cardinals card. Now, me not being a Cardinals fan or follower, this card still fit my collection as it is the Matt Holliday card and he wears the #7 jersey for the Cards, making for a very nice swap. Don't you just love scanning, I turn all the cards so the numbers face the same way, and the 2010 Update cards come out upside down compared to the 2011 Series 1!!

He also sent along a bunch of the Kimbals minis for that set (to date, I have 28/50 with only 1 double):

Now perhaps the highlight of this trade is a swap that is only half baseball related. I, as most of us do, also collect other things, often not related to America's favorite past time. I have a ton of Hot Wheels cars from my youth, several non-sports card collections, action figures, larger die cast cars, elephants, cows, and coins. I love different coins. I have several kinds, from the statehood quarters collection to $1 casino chips. I struck a side deal with Jonathan where as I sold him an Ichiro All Stars jersey card for $3.85. But, it's $3.85 Australian, which netted me a complete set of the Australian general currancy:

I really like the coin set. Thanks for the trade Jonathan, hopefully it will be the first of many.

Contest Results...

So, I entered a contest of sorts over at The Adventures of Napkin Doon's blog over the weekend, and my selection showed up yesterday:

It was a fun little deal called "Napkin Doon's Big Fun Game!!!!" where in he set a pick order for the 10 participants, then you had your choice, select a prize from 1-10, or steal a prize that had already been revealed. I should have stole the Diamondbacks Upton prize from door #9 as trade bait for Spankee, but instead chose to select a different door, and ended up with the Topps 2011 young stars lot:  Strasburg, Stanton, Hellickson, Price, Prado and McCutchen from door #6.

Not bad, I got a few more cards I needed for my base set, and had a blast participating. Thanks Doon!
I may have to try this game myself some time.

Have a GReat Weekend.

Are you ready for another rant?

So, I'm out to dinner last night with my wife and her sister when we decide to go by Wally World before returning home. I pick up a Wally World 2011 Topps Series 1 Blaster to try after a few more black parallels. Upon opening the packs this morning, I run across another of Topps' anomilies. Out of the blaster, I am supposed to receive 10 packs plus one commememerative patch card and 2 packs of exclusive black background parallel cards, at 8 cards per pack for a total of 81 cards. I am happily ripping away at the packs until I reach the "exclusives". One would figure on getting 16 black background cards per blaster, check this out:

Yep, that's right, out of 16 cards in the two packs, I get 10 black backgrounds! W T F Topps? Really? Give me a BREAK!! I buy the blaster to get the black cards, you then only give me 10 blacks, and you're gonna effing short me a card! Not cool. The only possible redeeming fact in this whole fiasco are the two Phillies, including the #232 Jamie Moyer that I've been hunting for!! Now, all I need is the Target throwback and I'm set!!

Now, the throwback patch cards are kinda cool, but out of three blasters, I've pulled a Ryan Zimmerman  Expos first, then a Ichiro Pilots throwback (which is traveling around the world as we speak) and the third, another Expos, though this one is the Strasburg one.

Thanks for reading, and letting me rant, again,
Have a GReat day.
