Enjoy your Memorial Day Everybody...
me·mo·ri·al
adj.1. Serving as a remembrance of a person or an event.
There are two days set aside during every calendar year to pay respect to our military members.
Veterans day occurs every November 11th to honor those who have returned from armed conflict in protection of our freedom. This day should be used to thank each and every service member that has gone in harm's way and lived to return home. The holiday is often celebrated by having a ravioli meal. This tradition dates back to the ending days of World War I when President Woodrow Wilson, aware that the returning soldiers would be longing for home cooked meals, invited 2,000 soldiers to the White House and helped his staff chefs cook them ravioli.
Memorial Day occurs on the last Monday of May, today this year, and I feel it's the more important of the two, as it honors those service members who never returned home, paying the ultimate price for our freedom. That these men and women are willing to spend countless hours in training and preparation for deployment to far off lands with the full knowledge they may never see home or loved ones again merits the utmost honor and respect.
The mere fact that we Americans can spend a day off watching the ball-game, cooking out with family and friends, is a testament of our ever-faithful service members.
I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful day, and maybe, just for one moment, say two small prayers. One for those men and women that chose to defend our freedom and way of life as their career. And one for those who are no longer with us, having paid the ultimate price for that career choice.
To our Military members, past, present and future, Thank you for your service.

An "Other World"ly break, part 1
A couple of months ago, Dan, over at the Other World, held a "card love" contest, of which I was the 1st place winner. Part of the prize was free participation in his first group break. Long story short, I chose my Phillies and the Diamondbacks for this break.
Apparently, somewhere along the way, "Life" got in Dan's way, preventing him from sending the break results out until last week. I would like to say from my perspective, receiving results in a timely fashion ain't all it's cracked up to be. These cards showing up in my mailbox Monday when they did really turned an otherwise CRAPPY day into a damned decent evening. Thanks for turning my Monday around Dan.
Now, with out further adieu, the results from Dan's first ever break:
I'm just loving those older player's cards, that middle row is just awesome, and I just can't go wrong with another Schmidt card for that page. And the Baseball Heroes cards look schweet!!

Just who the hell is Corky Miller, anyhow???
I was strolling thru the discount card bin at my local Target store last week, and picked up three packs of Don Russ "the Rookies" from 2002. Not being price marked, I decided to only purchase one of the three and take a chance on some more '11 Opening Day, trying for the insert cards.
Well, upon opening the pack, I discovered some very nice cards, well designed, and one, bone - E - fied, Corky Miller Cincinatti Reds autograph, numbered 439/500. Not bad for putting two back and keeping this one.

Hey Look...
I dug up some artifacts!! A blaster of Upper Deck Artifacts, that is. I got this little package of discount cardboard last week, but today is the day to show it off.
I really like the design of these cards, and managed to pull a hit out of the box as well. I did not notice the entire disclaimer on the package when I bought it. It reads, "One Hit Per Box" in rather large letters and underscored with the words "on average" in smaller letters!! But I managed to get one with a hit anyhow.
and it's even someone I collect as a bonus!!! even if he's in a Blue Jays uniform...
a very cool, blue jersey swatch from Mr. Halladay himself!!

Another Wicked Trade package...
Today's goodness is actually a very Wicked thing!! A while back, I sent a small care package to the Wicked one. Well, as so often is the case, Mr. Ortega does not, and did not, disappoint.
He reciprocated with another batch of Phillies for my PC, starting this one off with a very nice Steve Carlton Jersey relic, complete with a pin stripe.
I just love the Roberts card as well.
and a few more Schmidts for that page..
thanks Wicked,
Have a GReat day!!

One good Break deserves another... part 3
Well, the Dimwit's break did not last near as long as Benny's, but I got some very nice cards for my Philly and Minnesota PCs:
Look at all them nice Phillies!!
including a gray jersey card from the Nationals' right fielder, Jason (they cut up my Phillies jersey) Werth.
Odd that the base Queen cards have him as a National, but the jersey card has him in the Phillies uniform, but hey, it's my gain!!!
Thanks for a GReat break Sam, I'm looking forward to what you may break in the future...
Thanks for peeking in,
Have a GReat weekend!
