Hate is such a strong word...

So I will sayy that I strongly dis-like the Atlanta Braves. They've been spoilers to my Phils way too many times.

That being said:

LET'S GO FOR A SWEEP!
LET'S GO BUCS!!!!

beat dem Braves!!
Consequently, if you are a Braves fan, in search of Braves swag, you could denounce your team and win some!! Go on over to The Pirate's Treasure Room and participate in his little contest. You could get yourself a Chippa!!

and if the Buccos are very prolific, you could win yourself:

for a sweep!

Thanks for reading, Let's Go Bucs!!

Haulin A$$

This post is late. It should've been written yesterday as the events actually occurred on Friday, the 20th.

Did anybody happen to catch the highlights, specifically the Brewers Loss to the Rockies or the Pirates loss to the Cardinals?

Now I know what you are asking yourself, "Why would Dawgbones, a Phillies Phan, be interested in either of these two games? It's early in the season, and the Phils do not look to be much of a threat this year??

Well, the reason behind this could be caught on the highlight reels for both games. There was an inside-the-park homer hit in each of these games. Norichika Aoki hit his first career home run, an inside-the-parker in the fourth inning. And Alex Presley races around the bags to earn himself an inside-the-park home run, giving the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.

Now according to MLB, having two inside-the-park homers hit on the same day is not that rare of an occurance to warrant extra attention. But, I wonder how often it is done by two players wearing the same jersey number, which is where my fascination comes in to play, as they both wear the number 7 jersey for their respective teams!!

Way to go boys!! Congratulations on a very fine piece of hauling ass around the bags!!

Have you Ever...

...made a trade for a card that was already in your possession?
In a very unique twist of fate, involving Local Card Shops, or the lack thereof, I came to be in possession of a card that I wanted for my own.
A while back, Derek of Tomahawk Chopping, put out a plea for help. He was in possession of several Prime 9 exchange cards but does not have a participating LCS near him. Now as most of my loyal readers know (yep, both of you) my true LCS is my local COMIC shop, but with one quick phone call, I discovered that Jersey's Cards and Comics, local to my place of employment, was participating. I relayed this information to Derek and told him to send the cards to me and I would redemm them and send them on back his way.

He graciously offered for me to pick one of the cards that I liked best to keep for myself. Now, that is NOT the reason I offered to help him out and had every intention of sending all of his 9s to him, until I redeemed the first of them for:

Now both of my loyal followers know I collect players that wear the number 7 jersey (I keep kidding, but I've actually picked up a few readers recently and am up to 79 now!!). And you don't get much more iconic than Mr. Mantle! As I eluded to earlier, I was not about to "keep" a card from this little assistance project. But I am not above making an offer in trade for it. A few emails back and forth, and a simple little trade was cemented. And that is how I made my first trade for a card that was already in my possession. And what a beautiful card it is too, the foily blue coloring, fading from light to dark on the edges, with the iconic names floating in the background (including Mr. Schmidt twice!) is just too cool!

Thanks for the trade Derek, glad I could help out with your dilemma, worked out well for me!

P.S. How many times can you use the word possession in a post?? That, my friends, is a lot of esses!!

P.P.S. An update, it has been about a month since Mrs. Dawgbones and I qualified for our M Class license, and we are now venturing out onto the main roads around Tidewater, including the interstate, the downtown tunnel twice, and last night, our first open steel grating bridge crossing. We now have over 150 miles on the cycles and are well on our way to our first road trip, maybe by the end of the month! Cage-free life is awesome, everything I was hoping it would be and more!

Tragic...

It still bothers me a bit, how a life so beautiful can be cut short in the blink of an eye...

Calendar Trivia...

and for the record, my guess was wrong:

When asked why he should earn more annually than President Hoover, what baseball legend responded,
"Why not? I had a better year"?

Have a GReat Toosday everybody! It's looking like a GReat night for riding!!

Trolling for Minis

What's a package worth if it does not have a mini or two in it. I may never find out cause there were minis-a-plenty in this envelope!!

A mini Lidge (actually 2!), Rollins, Howard, Ruiz. And he even knocked another Kimballs champ off of that list for me!! I'm really liking the Rowand Black border, too cool!!
Thanks Troll!

More goodies...

From everybody's favorite Troll.
One of the more interesting items that my good friend included in this latest package is a 36 year old Crane Potatoe chips Major League Baseball disc shaped Steve Carlton card, "That has been part of my collection for over 25 years." My scanner does not do this justice. It's in a screw down acrylic holder that the scanner just did not like at all.

My iPod has to do better...

Yep, that's more like it. This one looks good with the rest of my Phillies stuff at work. Thanks for 1 of the more interesting items that now graces my shrine...

Trolling for cards in the mail system...

I hinted at a package of goddness from Southern Florida last week. Then promptly got busier than ever at work, at home, and a couple of places in between!!

I showed off 1 item in  the first post, this one:

Don't know whether he got this in person or not, but it's an awesome Phillie autograph that's gonna look even better when I frame it and add it to my cubicle wall at work!

The Phillies and Doc handled them yesterday, getting rid of the goose-egg in the wins column!! Way to go Boys!! Keep it up. I imagine even old Steve Carlton would be proud of them. Putting a few hits together and limiting the Buccos to just 2.

I even imagine if you sent a note to Mike Schmidt and asked his opinion, he'd probably include a few goodies for your time.

more to come later, sooner than last time, but later than now!!

Contest Winnings

A while back, Justin, from the aptly named Just in Justin's World, held a neat little contest for a Ginters Pirate's mini-framed Relic. Yours truly was the winner. My spoils showed up last week and my lazy ass is just now posting about it..
This is the second or third mini-frame I've gotten and I love the design:

Thanks for the Contest Justin, love the card, it will look GReat in my odd player names binder...

On a different note, long story short, my wife decided she'd made the wrong choice in motorcycles so we swapped hers out for a bike similar to mine (same bike, different color, one model year newer). On the bright side of things, I actually rode it home from the dealership last night, public streets and the downtown tunnel and all that. Gotta say, it's gonna be GReat not having to live my entire existence in a cage anymore!! Watch out Hampton Roads, I'm rip roaring and rarin to go now!!!
