The last of the anti-local pick-ups

The last card I picked up on my trip to Mobile is a good one. It's another one for my blog's namesake, Michael Jack Schmidt.

A very nice mini-silk replica patch card of Schmidtty's 1974 Topps base card!

This is only the second silk card I have in my collection, and got a really decent deal on it and the other items I bought from Big Hit Sports. If you are ever in the Mobile area, it's well worth the trip across the bay to the Spanish Fort area to visit BHS.

Thanks for the tip Sam, it worked out well for me.

Another pick-up, thanks to Sam

Yesterday, I started this little series about a shop in the Spanish Fort section of Mobile Alabama.
Today I continue with the second of three cards purchased from Big Hit Sports.

A 2013 Topps cut to the Chase die-cut of my blog's namesake.

This card celebrates Mike's 7th home run crown in 1984.
Thanks for taking a peek,

Some not so local pick-ups

So, late last month, my company sent me to hell for 2 weeks to work.
It wasn't actually hell, it was Mobile, Alabama, I think Hades would have been at least 5 or 10 degrees cooler with less humidity!! I work in the ship design industry and occasionally this puts me out in the field aboard the various vessels that I help design. The average temperature on this particular ship was around 110 at 5 am! I just wish this trip would have occurred a few months earlier as Sam, our favorite Daily Dimwit, was working in Mobile and had just left to move back home. It would have been nice to meet in person. But Sam did point me to a few good local eateries, and 1 card shop, Big Hit Sports Cards.
I had a few hours to kill one afternoon so I made my way across the bay and found B.H.S. They were very friendly, and even more gracious after I mentioned Sam. While there, I did find a few additions for my Schmidt collection. The first being from Donruss Studios:

I liked the look of this card in particular, with the old school logo, and I needed a card or two of Schmidt's in the horizontal framing to complete that page in the binder.

The back give a few highlights from Schmidtty's career.
Thanks for the tip Sam, and Laps was a GReat place to eat as well. We also tried Felix's Fish Camp a couple nights too, the broiled shrimp was awesome!

Thanks for reading,
Back tommorrow with another.
Have a GReat day!
