Mis-Cut Mondays... Round 3

Today's little adventure in un-alignment comes to us courtesy of Justin, over at Justin's World, who has managed to hit a double this morning, with a card that hits the Phillies as well as being mis-cut.
Enjoy

He also sent a couple of other cards for my collection, along with today's mis-cut Monday card:

Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves... The Group Break edition

Other than being one of my all time favorite Cher songs, there is also a group break of 2011 Gypsy Queen going on over at the Daily Dimwit, and it's very affordable. Hell, even I got in it, and I'M CHEAP!

Wouldn't it be schweet if one of these showed up in there!!

If all 30 teams are claimed, there could be a bonus box of something else thrown in for fun!! Anyhow, it promises to be a nice little collection. There are plenty of teams still available, so go on over and check it out.

and if you like what you see, tellim Dawgbones sentcha!!

Group break...

Dan, over at The Other World, is hosting a group break of the following:

2002 Topps Total-David Wright and Joe Mauer rookies
2003 Topps Gallery Museum Edition-2 relics per box and one coin collection boxtopper
2005 Upper Deck Classics (all retired player checklist)-2 relics and one auto per box
2008 Upper Deck Heroes-3 relics and one auto per box
2009 Topps T206-one auto and one relic per box

There should be 11 hits from these five boxes, and by my reckoning, the 3 slots left have a choice of the following five group A teams (2 participants chose teams from group B):

Braves
Tigers
Reds
White Sox
Indians

You also get a second team in the break, so, if you are a fan of one of these teams, go on over and jump in, it should be a GReat break!

Have a GReat day!

A Topps 2007 10-pack...

So, last week I read in Spankee's blog where he picked up a discount multi-sport pack of cards for cheap cheap at the local K-Mart here by work. I decided to look at the Kmarts closer to home and see if I could find any others. I had no luck with those, but I did come across a discounted blaster box of 2007 Topps Updates and Highlights. Being the lonely box on the shelf, I figured, what the hell, it's only $6 for 10 packs of cards plus 1 "hot" pack of 3. I did find several others on another shelf, but decided to stick with my first find. I may go back by there and pick up a second one later this week.

The next several posts will be dedicated to this find, so without further adiue:

Pack 1
Placido Polanco
Classic Combo: Crawford/Guillen
Home Run History - Barry Bonds
Jesus Flores
Russell Branyan
Ubaldo Jiminez

Not a bad start.

Mis-Cut Mondays... Round 2

Up for today is a little jewel that came floating out of a bubble mailer, courtesy of Smed's Baseball Card blog.
He sent me a bunch of cards for my 2008 Topps Opening day set, and this one lonely little card for my MCPC.

Now, at first glance, it's not mis-cut, and why would it make the MCPC? Well, this one goes in the binder backwards. The front of the card is normal, but the back reveals a serious alignment issue at the Topps factory, resulting in half-backs from Garvins card and a White Sox player named Jim.

What an interesting card, and a nice "fit" for this PC category, and my new Monday post. Thanks Scott.
Neat-O!!

Traded "Bait"...

So, quite a few of us are becoming acquainted with Michael, the author of one of the newest blogs on the block, Nomo's Sushi Platter, not wanting to be left out of the fun, I packed up a few cards and a fathead or three and sent them off to him. Though I was not his first trade, I did end up being his first trade post on the platter, you can read about his side of the trade here.
Well, I received a rather nice bubble mailer on Friday, full of cards for my other, Non-Phillie PCs. He included several Phillies as well, but they were not the highlight of this trade. Perhaps the highlight of this trade is my first Arizona PC "hit", a very nice Piedmont Daniel Schlereth Rookie Auto.
I knew that one was coming as it was part of the "bait" email, but I did not know that the Manny relic was joining this little trade, what a nice little bonus surprise!!

He sent along a very nice selection of Twins, chromed D-Backs, a Yankee or two (several actually), several gold parallels, plus a wild assortment of cards to fit just about every one of my categories. He even hit a double, sending me a Mantle that fits both the Yankees and #7 PC. I have a feeling that Spankee may try for the Uptons in this trade, but we'll see...

Overall, a very nice trade from a pretty cool blogger, even if he's new to the game (Hey, ain't we all??)

Thanks for the trade Michael, I do enjoy each trade that I make. I still find it amazing that almost total strangers out there are willing to send me cards that they think I'll like, just to see if that happens. It feels like Christmas morning every time I open the snailbox and see a brown bubbler in there.

I'm still looking for the previous owner of this card at the bottom of this post.

Arghhh... yle, that is!!

So, over the last few pack breaks, Greg, over at Plaschke, Thy Sweater is Argyle, has been asking me to snag this card or that card and hold it aside for him. I gladly obliged him, creating a rather large stack that finally found it's way out of my blog trade box and zoomed off to him. You can read about that here.

In return, he sent me:

I guess he's going to have to rename his blog to cardigan now!!
And I found this:

in the pocket! We now have half a chance at the next round of Phungo's STS contest!!

Now, not to put all the kidding aside just yet, I can't believe he ran out of Phillies in trades with that other new Phillies blog, Things are Funner Here, knowing he had all these cards over here just waiting for him!!

I should have auctioned off his cards to the highest bidder!! But, lucky for him, I'm good natured, fully believe in Karma (no worries, it's ALL GOOD!!), and most importantly for him, collect several other teams that he could, and did, choose from.

He did manage to find a couple Phillies that Miss Julie had not snagged yet as he included my favorite closer, Mr. Lidge. And our favorite powerhouse, when he connects, that ball is outa here, but mostly it's one, two, threee strikes, you're OUT! Ryan Howard.

Along with those, he sent some very nice cards from the D-Backs, Sox, and Yanks. My favorite card from this lot is probably the '67 Twins team card. I don't have many team cards, but the ones I have are really neat and this one is now the oldest team card I have.

I really like the '91 Score Lenticular Trivia card too, that's another first for my collection.

Thanks for the trade Greg, let me know when you get some more Phillies to trade and I'll let you have your F5 key back (maybe).

I have another trade post that I'd like to publish, but I must beg forgiveness and plead pig-ignorance as I've mis-placed the party responsible for the goodies (tooo many trades flyin in and out of the old snail-box!!). If you read this and have sent me the following card amongst others, please let me know who you are as I want to give credit where credit is due.

Thanks for reading,
Have a GReat weekend!

Final Standings and sources...

OK, so this has been a total blast. You guys rock!! I love the comments that I receive for the musings I throw out there. I read each and every one of them, and they have been the source of several of the bonus entries in this contest. (more on that below)

When Jorden from CSN first contacted me about this opportunity, he mentioned that the gift code would be a nice reward for my readers. When most of these contests are started, there is the usual "follow me", "pimp this on your blog" etc... I decided to take a different approach, at least for my first contest. I wanted to leave this one for my regular readers and followers. I gladly accepted any entries, and have picked up at least one new follower this week, but wanted this contest to be about the people that have been there from the start, or have decided to permanently join in on my little journey.

That being said, let's talk qualifiers:
1. Leaving a comment on the Unfinished Business post. - 13 folks got this one
2. Round 2 of Phungo's STS contest. Kind of easy, it was ME!! - 4 folks got this one

The next bonuses went back to commenting, I went back through all of my posts and started counting comments.

3. The 7th commenter picked up a bonus entry. - Jeremy's sole entry. (and he's still unaware!)
4. The 7th different commenter picked up a bonus entry. - Spankee
5. Same for the 17th comment. - Play at the Plate
6. And the 17th different commenter. - Smed's sole entry. (but he found out)
7. Anyone who left 7 comments on my blog. - 9 bonuses picked up here, including an entry for Flywheels who just squeaked in with his 7th comment on my Goodwynn’s rant, er.. I mean post.
8. Anyone who left 17 comments on my blog. - 4 bonuses picked up on this one.
Greg blew past this one early, but Spaskitmooss and The Lost Collector actually caught on to this one!

Now for the Bonus questions:

9. The birthday bonus round. My birthday is January 3rd, 1968. I blogged about it on My 43rd 3rd post. - 4 of you got this one.
10. Birthday bonus, part 2.What day of the week was it? There were two acceptable answers here.
January 3rd, 1968 was a Wednesday. January 3rd, 2011 was a Monday. - 3 people got this one. Spastikmoos got the date but never gave the day.
11. Birthday bonus, part 3a. Tricky. Anyone that left a comment on that post got one entry! 5 people got this one (I only counted the first comment).
12. Birthday bonus, part 3b, Spastikmoos gets the double bonus with his first time of 2:22. I converted all times to am as I stated in the post that I was born in the morning. After double checking last night with the source for accuracy. My mother states that I was born after only 2 hours of labor, at 2:20am.
Not bad Mooss,  two minutes off for 2 more entries.
13. Three of you got Piper's Relic bonus question by looking at the bottom of my blog page.

Here is where the 7s and 17s really kicked in:

14. The Birthday bonus, part 3c, those of you that left the 7 time comments picked up the "7 comments on my blog" bonus here.
Bonuses were also available for:

15. The 7th comment on any post.
16. The 14th comment on any post. (2x7)(only one post went beyond the 7 comments bonus)
17. the 17th comment on any post, the 21st comment on any post. (3x7...), The 28th comment on any post, The 34th and 35th. (2x17,5x7), and the last one here was picked up by the 42nd comment.
18. The final bonus question was good for two entries.
Where did my 7 & 17 category come from?
A quick search for "players who wear the #7" would lead to this post. Seven was my first dog.
Sorry Greg, Mr. Mantle is probably the most famous person to wear the #7 jersey but my affinity for him stems from her.
The 17 was a bit tricky, but by eliminating the "7" from the picture, and my "Spankee's only had one of these", combined with a search for Spankee would lead to this post. And by deduction, Spankee's 1st anniversary combined with the fact that there had only been two 17th's of the month until today, leading to January or February 17, going to either day's posts, should lead to here.
Spastikmooss earned his final 2 entries with those correct answers.

So, with a surprise entry from newcomer Liz last evening (Sorry BA, bonus entries cut off at 3pm, but I did not cut off the original way to enter), I have 16 people  that have earned 66 entries for the CSN gift code, tabulated as follows:
