3 Discounted packs...

out of the $1.59 box at my local Target store the other night.
the first 2 packs fall into my freaky odds category.
the first pack is 2008 Upper Deck X:

and I got another Gold Die-cut, Do you need it Spankee?

and then there's a pack of 2009 Icons:

the freaky odds part, the X-ponential insert card is Adam Dunn, who was also the top card in the Icons pack, even though he apparently switched teams between these releases!!

and you can never go wrong in my book when you pull a #7 player from a pack, even better when it's from one of my PC teams!

The rest are available if anyone needs them, with the possible exception of the Gold die-cut, Spankee has a standing order of "1st dibbs" on the golds for his set.

Apparently, Blogspot is caught in a Snowstorm..

Anybody else having a problem reading posts? It appears that once certain blogs get commented on, they will not display from my reading list. I click your post, it briefly appears, then the screen goes completely white.

I can hit the back button, your post will briefly appear again, then go white again. Blogger has not answered my pleas for resolution on this.

I ask you, are you having this same issue? I am disabling comments for this post, so email me:

Someone posted that changing the comments from embedded to full page stops this but I don't know.
Thanks for reading, I hope to be able to read you guys again soon!

The Diamond Giveaway, 2nd to last post for '11

So, I'm about ready to have my meager collection, plus the set, shipped. I figured I would appeal to my loyal followers and see if anybody had any vintage Phillies in their virtual collection that they were not planning on having shipped put to them, I don't have much room to trade, but I could work something out with you if you are interested.

The only new stuff I've got are Tug and Ricky:

and I will have them join my collection, they are Phillies after all!

I already have some older Phils plus two Diamond Cut Phillies to ship:

2011 Carlos Ruiz / Catcher / Philadelphia Phillies
Card Number: DDC-44

2011 Cole Hamels / Pitcher / Philadelphia Phillies
Card Number: DDC-72

2011 Miguel Montero / Catcher / Arizona Diamondbacks

2011 Ryan Zimmerman / Third Base / Washington Nationals

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Wait a minute...

That's not Sammy!!!

Nope, finally traded that '69 Sammy Ellis for an equally vintage '70 Tony Taylor, and definitely love the look of this card. All those throwback batter's helmets (though technically, they aren't throwbacks in this picture!)

Now to just wait out a few more days, see if anybody nibbles on that '70 team card before having the whole works shipped!

Thanks for indulging me,

Birthdays aint so bad...

My birthday gift finally arrived this week, even though Mrs. Dawgbons ordered it well before Christmas. What do you get the discerning Phillies Phan for his Berfday?

Yep, everybody's Hometown Hero, Mickey Mouse, sharply dressed in a Phillies uniform and swinging for the fences!! He's part of a new series from the Hamilton collection, with the rest of the team coming later, will show them as they arrive.

Thanks Mr.s Dawgbones, I love it, though I love you more!!

Why does nobody want Sammy?

So I finally get to 45 rings, spend about 20 minutes turning the doubles into uniques, spend another 10 minutes trading to get a Phillies ring back (apparently, two peeps accepted that trade at the same time!)

Now, I'm stuck, trying to offload a 1969 Sammy Ellis, attempting to turn him into a similar Phillie from the same year or so, but, apparently, nobody wants him!

I don't know why, he's got a pretty nice looking card, but no nibbles. How about you guys, have any of these virtual cards you are trying to upgrade (or in my case, downgrade into a PC)?

If I have no offers in a week or so, I guess I will have to find Sammy a home here in one of my binders, I mean, he is vintage afterall!

About that diamond giveaway...

So, I won an auction on the Bay last week, securing myself 14 code cards for the giveaway. This brings me to within reach of the 60th anniversary set, plus some added free shipping!! The thing of it is, I only needed 9 codes for the set.

I now have four extra codes that I do not know what I want to do with (I emailed 1 of the codes to a fellow Phillie fan who ended up ebing just 1 shy). Now, what should I do with the four remaining cards?

I could sell them on the bay and attempt to recupt some of my money, I could redeem them and see if I can get anything good (kinda doubting that option, considering my last few redeemed cards were not GReat!)

Ellis was the absolute best I got for my 9 codes...

Or I could offer them up for trade. What do you, my loyal readers, think? Is anybody in need of these four codes? 1 of them is due to expire at the end of the month, but the rest are good for a while yet, at least until Topps figures out how to add a day onto the end of June!!

I have managed to trade some of my "unwanted" cards and at least turn them into Phillies, so they'll at least find a good home here in my Phillies Binder.

2nd Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web Last Day to get in!!

Hey Gang, don't be a DUNCE like me, go on over and enter Buddah's 2nd Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest!!

Just be sure to pick two teams that could actually play against each other on the end...

Yeah, that was me last year, picking two AFC teams to play in the superbowl, goes to show you exactly how much I pay attention to football. Guess that's why he named it ALMOST easiest.

Hell, if I had not spent the afternoon over at my sister's house on New Year's day, I would not have seen any football at all over the holidays!!

Anyhow, go on over and join in the fun, or bow out gracefully if you don't care much for football, like myself!

Sometimes things just work out...

for somebody else!!

Have you ever just absolutely killed it in a break? Yes, then leave, leave now, just go.

Ok, now that they are gone, I recently joined in on a group break held by Kyle, of the relatively new (or at least new to me) blog JABO, or Juuust a Bit Outside.

I chose the Phillies and Twins for my two teams, and was randomly assigned the Orioles. Now, I am in no way knocking Kyle's break. Sometimes the card gods shine on you, sometimes they shine on others. That is what I felt during this break. I got a few good Phils and a few good Twins, but nothing that I would even remotely consider spectacular. Give you two guesses which my favorite card from this break was:

Now I realize it is just me, but my beloved Phillies deliver time and time again in group break after group break, until I manage to snag that spot, then they take the break off!!

Now the Orioles, on the other hand, made out fairly well in this particular break, which,in my humble opinion, works out real well for Ryan, over at '"O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog. You see, I am currently in trade negotiations with Ryan for a few Phillies that I desire, I think he is really going to enjoy the results of this break:

The Markakis is numbered 525/562 and the Britton refractor is numbered 60/225. The Reynolds is not numbered out of anything, but is still a nice looking card. Despite the fact that Ryan did not care much for Bowmans' offering this year, he did get two versions of the card he felt was the least offensive out of the set, the Delmonico Rookie. Hope you will enjoy these Ryan, they have been added to your stack.

Thanks for the group break Kyle, it did work out well for Ryan, and I will enjoy the cards for my PCs.

New Year's Resolutions....

I really only have 2, both of which will GReatly affect my readership:

Number 1
Learn to safely operate my new motorcycle so as not to bring harm to myself or others.

Number 2
To get away from the computer a little more often this year.

Yes, this means I will not be posting as often this year, I hope to make more meaningful posts, going for more quality than quantity.

My collecting goals for this year: Hell, whos knows, I am planning on buying two boxes that I know of, this year's Opening Day is a must have for me, and I'm going to try a box instead of packs. And I'm really excited for the up-coming Big Bang Theory release and have already asked my Local Comic Shop to set a box aside for me, I'm really hoping for a Kaley Cuoco auto.

As for baseball, I hope to finish the few sets I have started before taking on anything new, including Topps beyond Opening Day (and this is very subject to change).

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

Wishing all my readers the very Happiest of New Years!
May the best day of your past be the absolute worst day of your future!

and I just can't wait to show this off, it's even baseball related!!

Christmas Gifts 2011:
My wife and I have been searching and collecting baseball material (fabric) for the last year and a half or so. Trying in vain to find some type of Phillies pattern so she could make me a new quilt. Lo and behold, she presented me with my baseball quilt for Christmas this year!!

the backing is flannel, to keep me warm until spring training begins the new season:

surrounding the outer edges, we have a base/hitter/runner and the diamond:

next up, a few more baseball related items spread over a blue background:

followed by bats, balls, and gloves, this was my favorite find, I just love the colors:

centered was the second favorite find, the pitchers proverbial playground:

Now, I know what you are thinking, where's the Phillies!! Well I gotta tell you, damned MLB and their stinking licensing. There are very few fabrics available outside of fleece (and with 4 dogs, fleece ain't my best friend). Well, what's a woman to do for her husband and his favorite team??

I tell you what she does, she gets damned inventive, that's what she does, purchasing two very large, very freaking SCHWEET wool pennants, and makes them the center of my very cool, very OWN Phillies quilt!!

How freaking cool is that!!!

And that, my Phello Phillies Phriends, as well as the rest of my readership, is why my wife is the best damn friend I could ever hope to have.

Great Job Mrs. Dawgbones, you have definitely outdone yourself this year and should be very proud of yourself. I think you just made of bunch of my fellow collectors very jealous!!

Have a very safe and Happy New Year Everybody!
