Opening Day Base cards complete!!

In a more round about fashion than usual, I've discovered a new blog, The Raz Card Blog, run by Chris.
He and I were helping a fellow blogger finish off the 2013 Opening Day set for his son and struck up a trade between us.

He has helped me finish off the base cards for my set as well as traded me one of his blue parallels for my Phillies. He also included a bunch of inserts for that set as well, putting me well on my way to finishing this year's set off ahead of everything else.

He also included some extra Phillies from some of this year's other offerings:

and then there is this little beauty!! I've been wanting the Dealing Aces Phillies since I saw them earlier this year, and now I've got my first one out of the way! The only knock I'd give Topps on these would be the choice of color, Doc really should have been on the hearts or diamonds and red.

Now that's what I'm talking about. The red on the No-Hitters Halladay really pops with the pinstripes and Phillies cap! What a sharp looking card, and the other GQ Phillies set that I've been looking for as well.
These two cards were worth the trade alone!!

Thanks for them and the rest of the OD stuff too Chris! I'll be getting you something out this week in return for your kind offering here.

Stuck on Sales

So I've been hitting the sales at my local Targets this week, trying to finish out my 2013 Opening Day set.
Basically a 2 fer 1 special has me chasing out most of the missing cards. And I also picked up one lonely pack of 2013 Sticker Collection:

not a bad representation for my PCs with 3 out of 8, suffice it to say though, I'm not buying any more of these.

Celebrating our Independence...

Today I am off somewhere with my wife and good friends, turning fuel and oxygen into a lot of noise.

P.S. Please think of your four-legged friends. Bring them inside for the fireworks displays and if you are not going to be there with them, leave a television or radio on to distract them from what they fear is the end of the world as they know it. The 4th of July is the day/week/weekend with the highest amount of strays turning up at your local shelters. (most of them trying to get away from all the fireworks)

Meanwhile, over at the Eagles convention...

So, I get a call from my mother last week, telling me she has a baseball card for me. My dad is a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and there was the annual convention being held at a hotel near our house.
They were walking around the convention when they came across a sign for autographs from a former Major League Pitcher that used to play for the Texas Rangers.

Knowing my new found penchant for baseball, they popped in and met the man face to face, and got him to sign one of his baseball cards for me.

Personally, I've only met 1 MLB player, though it was a good one. My dad, on the other hand, is 1 ahead of me now, having met and shook the hand of Joe Dimaggio back in his younger days, he has now also shook the hand of Jose Guzman.

according to wikipedia:

Guzmán was signed by the Texas Rangers as an amateur free agent on February 10, 1981. He made his major league debut on September 10, 1985 against the Oakland Athletics. He remained with the Rangers for six seasons winning the1991 MLB Comeback Player of the Year Award after improving from an 11–13 season to 13–7 in 1991.

In December, 1992, Guzmán signed as a free agent with the Chicago Cubs. On April 6, 1993, in defeating the Atlanta Braves 1–0 at Wrigley Field, Guzmán had a no-hitter broken up by an Otis Nixon single with two out in the ninth—the only hit he would allow. The no-hitter would have been the first pitched by a Cub (and, in fact, the first the Cubs had been involved in) since Milt Pappas in 1972.

He remained with the Cubs for one more season pitching his final game on May 23, 1994.

He also has a very nice signature. Thanks for the auto Mom and Pop. Love ya! And thank you Mr. Guzman, both for the autographed card as well as being a super nice guy to my parents.

Yeah, I'd probably jump off a bridge too...

Bought myself a hanger pack of series two last week after I saw other being very fortunate.

I was not!

I'm not unhappy with the results, but it definitely could've been better for this old Phillies fan!

The highlights:

yep, only two Phils in the box, but one was the Target red, which is a plus! Most of these, as well as my series 1 cards, are up for trade as I am only trying to assemble the team cards this year. I think I'll go back to Rack packs, I've had much better luck with them this season.

I could just tell you, Or Tease ya instead...

Bought another Big League Mini, probably my last unless I find some on clearance.

$4.99 a pop is just not working out for me. 2 out of three for my PCs isn't too bad, but none in the Phillies column really just doesn't cut it.
I may try eBay for the ones I really want and be done with it.
Did you figure out who I got this time? I gave two hints at it...

Big Pappi will go rather well with the Pedroia I pulled last time. Get it, Or-Tease ya!!
