Ultimate Victory...

Today marks the beginning of my box break of 2000 Upper Deck Ultimate Victory.
I'll admit I was intrigued by the possibility of a Hall of Famer relic card though this box failed to produce one.

the Box.
the Pack
Anyhow, let's take a look, shall we?

Pack 1

Pack 2

I like the clean design with the dual images on the front of the card, and I even pulled a numbered (218/250) Rookie card from my second pack. A very good start.

Baseball Card Exchange...

A while back, Spankee, over at My Cardboard Mistress, placed an order for some cards with the fine folks over at Baseball Card Exchange. I decided to take a peek over there on their website, and place an order for three boxes myself.

The website was very well organized, complete with a very handy search feature.
Prices were very reasonable, especially with shipping through UPS.
And the 1 minor glitch I had with my order (totally my fault) was handled quickly and professionally on their end with no fuss what so ever.

I highly recommend  that you check them out if you're looking for some boxes to bust. I'm glad I did, and I'm already trying to plan out my next order from them.

What did I order you ask?

could not resist the temptation at some earlier Mascot cards

this box just intrigued me, with the possible HOF hits from the class of 2000

and I've always liked the Minor League team names and Logos

I will be busting these open and posting about them over the next bunch of posts.

2 Bonus Packs...

I call them Bonus only cause that's what was on the outside of the packs. Go here if you want to read about a real BONUS! Way to go Sam. Hell, he pulled more hits/relics in 1 night than I've pulled in 2 years!!

Let's see what we got for our $1.98 + the Governor's duty, shall we? 4 cards per pack get's me:

Wow, missed the mark on the one!! Don't do Wrasselin'! Hell, only recognize two people, Ric Flair from the few times my mother and a friend of hers took us kids to the scope, and Kane, only cause he's in one of those horror movies that my wife LOVES to watch!!

Needless to say, if ANYBODY should happen to want these, just let me know.

Definitely the oldest card in my collection...

A little while back, Plaschke had a sweater, or was it a trade deal, or maybe it was a little lamb... no it was definitely a contest, of sorts...

Now, I had to promise my first born away for entry into this super-secret contest, no, wait a minute, maybe that was my wedding day??

Truth be known, I don't remember half the details from a quarter of the contests that I enter! Mostly, I read, I follow, I pimp, and on occasion, I win.

That was the case here, I think?

Anywhoo, there were bonus entries awarded, comments left, and maybe a voodoo ritual mixed in there somehere along the way, that's what I get for not paying attention last month!!

Well, I wasn't exactly the big winner in this contest, but I did come in second, which meant I got the first choice in the second round, plus the leftovers from Wes' decisions.

And then, I promptly forgot all about it!

Late last week, or maybe it was early this week, hell, I'm working so much right now, it could have been early last month, no, the contest was early last month, I think...

Any how, I get an envelope in the mail from Plaschke and begin wondering... Did I make a trade offer? Have I sent something out to him? Do I need to send something out to him??

NO, it is contest winnings from the afore mentioned festivities!!

Yay!! I now have cards in my posession that are WAAAAYYYY older than I am, and probably still in better shape!!

Let's take a look, shall we:
First up:

a 2010 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Hockey Rookie On-Card Auto from Brian Salcido, from the ducks

No, I was not born yesterday, fooled you!!

He also sent along a very nice assortment of cards for my various PCs, including some Mauers, some Orioles, a National, and a Phillie or two!!

The main prize, and as mentioned earlier, the oldest cards in my collection by far:

a Leaf 1949 Frank Overmire, a true conesuers card, lovingly held and passed around en mass:

and a 1911 Players Cigarettes Speaker of the House of Commons, which is in almost as good of shape as the '49!

Thanks for the contest there Plaschke,
Awesome fun times!!
Have a GReat weekend!

Local Card Shop...

Went by the LCS over the weekend and picked up a few relics:

My first Brett Myers relic, that red pinstripe should set that binder page off real well.

Bought this one because I like Thome, and the Steller Stat Men moniker just fits now that he's hit 599, then 600 Homers!! Congrats Jim, now hit go 400 more!

and I just can't go wrong with a Joe Mauer, #7 for the Twins

Now, I know what you're thinking, but the Braves card is not for me, and it's also not available as it's headed for a certain "fan" that set aside some '11 Ginter Phillies for me a few weeks ago, here.

plus one other that went in the mail before I could scan it, but keep an eye out for it over on Thorzul's blog as that's the final destination.

A Custom Card set Consolation Prize...

Way back near the beginning of summer, I entered a contest over a the Chronicles of Fuji.

What began as an answer to one question, Who wants to win some cards?, and a half-hearted attempt at snagging a calling card became a quest.

An over two month long quest to remain atop the standings, and thus, securing enough points to place among the prize package selection set.

At the end of it all, I bounced around at the top of the standings, and would have be securely in 1st place, if I had not missed 1 crucial contest within a contest. Having been on travel that week for my company, I did not participate, which cost me two points, the brutally honest truth, had I answered this challenge, I would have gained 7 points which would have placed me solidly in 1st overall!

As it was, I finished 2nd to Martyn overall, and did not place at all in the selection process (curiously, neither did Martyn!!) Not wanting to dismiss this fact altogether, Fuji decided that mine and Martyn's efforts were not to be fruitless, and cobbled together consolation prizes for us both. Mine showed up last week in the mail, I got a very nice customized card set, consisting of 17 cards:

Now, I know what you are thinking, this is just a bunch of cards for my PCs, and there are only 15 cards here. And you may have been right except for two crucial additions. Any good card set comes with a checklist of cards that comprise the set:

and any GReat card set features long sought after insert cards and autographs, as is also the case here:

Now, truth be know, the only reason I initially entered this contest was the guaranteed shot at attaining one of the San Jose Fuji cards, but I ended up having an absolute blast competing for points and other fun stuff along the way. Not only did I acquire my Fuji card, I feel as though I also made a good friend along the way.

Thanks for reading, and oh, by the way,

"Domo Arigato Fuji-san!"

I absolutely love my card set, what a GReat prize!!
Have a GReat day!!

Life in the slow lane...

every now and then, something comes out of the blue (or in from the right...)
Last week, on the way home from work, I was passed by a Lamborghini Gallardo. As I am normally one to do right around the ole double nickel, he had no problems passing me by and scootin down the road.

And, if not for the tunnel (Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel), I might have never seen him again.
WRONG:

Nice car, welcome to Hampton Roads!!
